Bad Faith Criticism

There are a lot of valid complaints about finance on here. There are also a lot of things said that are completely asinine.

1) Hours - Customer service hours do not equal duty hours. I agree the customer service hours suck and need to be expanded, but just because the counter is closed doesn't mean we're not there. No finance office has shorter than a 40 hour work week. The whole "They show up at 1100 and go to lunch and go home at 1300" is ridiculous.

2) Accountability - The myth that no one is held accountable and issued paperwork for mistakes is a lie. If we follow the logic used in this argument, no one in any AFSC is held accountable because the entire base wasn't notified when Amn Snuffy received an LOR. FMers who make consistent mistakes and lose paperwork frequently are kicked out.

3) "If I made mistakes like finance people would die..." - Trying to compare MX to FM is an exercise in futility. I don't care how good you think you are, if you're doing dozens of pay updates with hundreds of lines of code you're going to make a mistake occasionally. I've worked in an MX squadron as an RA. You all make mistakes too. You get the job done of course, but with some bumps along the way. Same as us. Plenty of cops and maintainers have cross trained into finance. They make pay mistakes too. They lead offices that receive the same hate as all the others.

4) Working in an office - Yeah, when it's 100 degrees or 32 degrees outside it's nice to be inside. I feel for you when you're stuck outside when the weather sucks. However, I never hear anyone bring up the other side of that. If it's 70 degrees and sunny, people stuck in an office with no windows would much rather be outside. Just something to consider.

5) Multiple Sides to Every Story - Some people who post their horror stories on here are exaggerating, lying, or leaving out any information that would change the narrative because it's cool to shit on certain AFSCs. Don't take everything you read as fact.

Support agencies as a whole aren't nearly as well funded or manned as ops agencies. As it should be. Hopefully once our literal half a century old pay system is retired things will get better.
