What happens to elderly, infirm prisoners?

After some high profile cases of people getting 40 /50 year sentences, which basically means probably a life term.

What happens when an elderly prisoner needs a high level of care? E.g bedbound, carers needed for daily care, catheter care etc.

How are they looked after. Do the other prisoners act as carers or are there other systems in place.
