Why does the UK hate strikers?
So there’s a lot of people in a lot of different job roles striking at the minute for better pay, and rather than supporting them fighting for a better wage in an increasingly difficult financial climate, the vast majority seems to be very angry at them.
The refuse collectors strike and the streets pile with rubbish, the train workers strike and you can’t get to work, the post men strike and you don’t get your birthday cards. Surely this shows you how vital their services actually are and why they need better pay? Especially with the cost of living rising vastly?
The argument i see the most is “what about xyz they can’t strike that’s so unfair what about them”. How does one job role fighting for better pay negate that you also need better pay? No one said xyz wasn’t deserving, and this is coming from a care worker with 5 years of training and experience on minimum wage with the inability to strike.
I understand the inconvenience the strikes cause but that’s the whole point, that’s WHY they need better pay. Their job is vital and they can’t stay afloat just like the rest of us. If you could strike for the chance of better pay I’m sure that you would. Genuinely though, why all the hate?
Edit: please know my opinion hasn’t come directly from social media, my partner was a refuse collector on strike six months ago so my info also comes from first hand experience
