Rules for downtime
So far, this has sped up downtime in my games and gave my players something interesting to do. Hopefully, you'll find it useful.
When in Downtime, you may spend a Downtime Span doing one of these activities. The amount of Downtime Spans you have depends on how many the DM says you have, but two per day is usually a good start.
At base, you have the following options.
Check: Make an Investigation or Perception check to find something interesting. The higher the roll, the better the secret.
Job: Find some sort of work somewhere.
Explore: Explore this place at your leisure. You may want a guide.
Craft: Make something useful with the materials you’ve got.
Shop: Go buy stuff at a place.
Reputation: Do things to increase your notoriety.
Learn: You take time to learn a new proficiency or tool. This requires 1d10 spans of downtime.
Training: Hire someone for personal training. Expensive, but speeds up learning time by adding an additional 1 whenever you spend downtime with them.
Arena: Battle in the nearest fighting pit. Massive rewards, risk of death.
Drinking: Visit one of the place’s taverns.
Library: Go visit the closest library. It has books.
Invite: Invite an NPC that considers at least one of you a friend to hang out. This can be to talk, tell stories, get advice, play board games, or something else.
