Is there anything else that comes close to this?

TL;DR version:

I (truly) got into Genesis since the beginning of this year and all other bands don’t seem to come close to them. Most of the music out there seems boring now, alternative recommendations requested (list of alternative bands I tried already are mentioned in 2nd last paragraph below).

Full read:

So a bit of background, I’m a 90’s kid (well, not a kid anymore) and inherited my dad’s music taste. I pretty much solely like music from the 60’s till the beginning of 2000. Few examples: the beatles, skynyrd, led zeppelin, dire straits, pink floyd, steve miller band, the kinks, queen, the police, CCR, RHCP, … you name it.

Up until last year, I only used to know Genesis’ “top” (read: pop) hits like I can’t dance, invisible touch, that’s all etc.

Since the beginning of this year, let’s say I discovered all the rest of their material, out of curiosity for more, and oh boy, I got sucked in big time. I’m playing everything from Trespass till we can’t dance (with a few archived songs in between) in a loop on repeat since, I can’t grow tired of any of it (apart from the waiting room and who dunnit, I skip those, lol) and have a feeling I never will. Most of the songs (let’s say since Trespass till the end of the Hackett era) are just beyond music, it’s pure art. I currently feel like a groupie that missed out on this band’s prime.

The point of this post? Well, as the title says. Is there anything else out there, according to you, that even comes close to the brilliance and legacy of this band? I feel like even the music I liked listening before, except for pink floyd maybe, doesn’t even compare. Not in the slightest (kinda sounds like an obsession, maybe it is).

I’ve been following this and prog rock reddit channels for a while now, people seem to recommend other bands like marillion, king crimson, yes, zappa and rush, although I checked out most of their old / prime albums, it just doesn’t quite stick with me. It feels like I’m in a Genesis trance and the rest is just a void or something.

If nothing else sticks with me anymore, then I suppose I will keep looping all of this on repeat till I die.

Edit: bonus question, I also got interested in Genesis’ history and saw the BBC2 documentary “the story so far” from 1991 and the reunion documentary with Steve and Peter from 2014. I liked the first one more because it had lots of old footage (incl live show examples) and the latter one just felt like a talkshow, though still interesting to get some insights on how they used to work together. Anything else I should consider watching or is that pretty much it?
