(Unpopular Opinion) Gundam UC - Is the Main Character Meant to be this Unlikable? *Possible Spoilers*
SPOLIERS FOR Mobile Suit Gundam UC OVA ahead so proceed with caution!
I get the protangonist of the Series are usually angelic-touched or extremely aloof about the wider state of affairs, but is Banagher Links supposed to be this unrelatable?
All his actions & motivations seem to be disconnected from where he is standing, what situation he is in or even which side he nomimally belongs to.
It feels like his entire "arc" - and I loathe to even call it that, is that he really really needs to be together with Audrey Burns. Doesn't matter what she intends to do with the Box and its consequences - just pilot the Unicorn to her desires.
Even the show itself alludes to this when Marida Cruz told him that he's just thinking from the enemy's viewpoint & all Banagher can retort is "EVEN SO..!!" and when Frontal confronts him, for who and what will he use to Box for and he just thoughtlessly replies "Everyone", being utterly unable to even define an easy target group - the oppressed or the downtrodden and why his renegade ship should be the one in-possession of the Box
It feels like it's an allegory of why teenagers really shouldn't be left unsupervised even if he's the recipient of an enormous inheritance - The Unicorn Gundam. Because s/he is more likely to be unduly influenced by puberty and hormonal callings and make crazy decisions that leaves the rest of the adults wiping up after his/her mess.
And to think that in the final few episodes, Banagher feels that he's sufficiently qualified to be a font of sound judgement to tell Riddhe to jettison from the Banshee Gundam because it's a "dangerous machine". Sounds like he's just threatened that another man has a similar toy to impress the ladies
