What motivates some hunters to join the manor games?

probably a stupid question but it's been bugging me.

for survivors, a lot of their motivations are clear-cut, or clear signs why they would join, but for some of the hunter i get confused why they would do this.

i was reading Grace's lore and just question how she went from the bottom of the ocean to the manor, or Alva getting revived by a cat god and then just plonked into game 11.

sorry if i'm having an illiterate IDV player moment but please to the lore fanatics explain to me the hunter's motivations to even entertain the manor games, especially the dead ones + the gods
