Improve ghosting/flickering with fsr framegen
Not sure how known this issue and "fix" is amongst the playerbase, but as I am reading more and more performance posts I felt bound to post my findings on this topic.
I neither want to defend capcom for their optimization with this nor critize them. As it currently is and as capcom stated already before the beta with the release of the recommended specs, frame gen is a necessary tool to play the game and this beta has shown this at least to me.
Rig: RTX3080 (10GB), AMD Ryzen 9 5900X, 32GB RAM, Samsung Pro Nvme SSD.
I have/had about 30-50 FPS on medium settings at start. After trying around with settings and remembering the frame gen statement in the requirements I tried out AMD FSR framegen (as dlss is only supportin 40 series thanks NVIDIA) and encountered a unplayable amount of ghosting and flickering which got worse the longer I played... But I had a increase of FPS to about 100...
Nevertheless I turned it off again and played the beta with 30-50 FPS. A day later I found out what was causing especially the screen flickering. If I disable gsync in NVIDIA control panel I can now play the game without much issues at Medium Settings(I think I can also go higher now, will test that later) with about 100FPS and a absolute bare minimum of ghosting(not good but bearable).
SUMMARY:
Disable GSYNC in NVIDIA control panel. Enable AMD FSR with Framegen. And hopefully you can at least try the beta in an ok state for now.
Still hope capcom will do something about the optimization, as I would be ready to make some compromises as the game seemed fun so far (I would even accept to have frame gen on right now) if they would at least fix the ghosting and flickering stuff. The current state is absolutely not acceptable for release.
Edit:
After some additional tests I can say that the game pretty much looks good on hunts and during exploration with these settings even on high(between 60 and 90 FPS) or ultra settings (on ultra sometimes dropping below the 60FPS threshold). I mostly notice slight ghosting in camp due to the closer camera angle.
I hope this post has helped some people get the beta into a playable state for them. Let's hope they will do some additional tweaking until final release at least to make the frame gen stuff not look as bad as it is right now. (I think/fear that we will not get around using frame gen for this game...)
