Why does my mac keep ejecting my iphone when I try to import my photos to the photo library?

I'm trying to move my iphone photos to my mac photo library. It was working fine at first, but halfway through the import my mac stops importing the photos and ejects my iphone. Now I can;t even import a single photo.
