Is Meena the Most Underrated & Versatile Malayalam Movie Amma of the 80s-90s?
I’ve been binge-watching 80s-90s Malayalam movies on YouTube, and I feel Meena in mother roles is seriously underrated! She wasn’t just a typical Amma—she brought versatility, emotional depth, and natural acting to every role. In my opinion, she was on par with KPAC Lalitha and far ahead of the cliché Amma roles of Kaviyoor Ponnamma and the mediocrity of Sreevidya.
But whenever I ask people, they rank her way below Kaviyoor Ponnamma and Lalitha Chechi. Why is that? Do you think she deserves more recognition?
Speaking of recognition, I can barely find a good picture of her or any old interviews. It’s like she was forgotten despite playing such memorable roles.
