Did anyone else's parents make a big deal about collectibles?

Growing up, my mom would always talk about how certain toys will be worth money someday. She never taught me about things like building credit, saving money, bettering myself for a better job, or any of that stuff. It was always about having collectibles that I can sell when I'm older.
