Ultimate guide to getting bike/scooter license
So, I recently got my bike license at the age of 29 and this post is made for any person aspiring to get one. I will be pretty elaborate.
DISCLAIMER: I did all of mine at Radhe Radhe, Bhaktapur so things might be little bit different in other centres.
Initial Phase (Form Filling)
This is where you fill the form with the site applydl.dotm.gov.np. As of now for Bagmati and Pokhara(I guess) you have to go to applydlnew.dotm.gov.np and fill the form with the number registered in your own name. Recheck every detail as much as possible such that there are zero errors from your side. It's paramount that you make no errors in this.
Thereafter, you can choose the Transport office and also the date of office visit.
OFFICE VISIT: Biometric and Eye Check
DO NOT MISS THE OFFICE VISIT DAY or you'll have to apply again after 15 days.
What you need on visit day:
- The application form.
- The photocopy of your citizenship(front and back)
- Any medical paper confirming your blood group. (for first ever visit)
What you absolutely don't need:
- To stick a ticket(you save your Rs. 10)
- The blood group ID you get at the shops nearby. They charge you a lot for that. Better to have a certified report from nearest medical or hospital.
In Biometric, they will take your palm print and your photo. Then onto your eye check.
If you're color blind, you cannot get the license.
You have to pay Rs 105 for eyes check at the office.
After passing the eye test (Those E ones), you will be sent to the last stage of office visit.
The last stage is to pay Rs. 500(for written and first trial). So in total you'll spend Rs. 605. The written test will be scheduled in the next working day.
Keep the receipts(you get two)safe.
Written Test
You can choose on what language you want to take the exam. Only two options tho: Nepali and English.
The exam is very simple and easy but do get some help from apps.
DISCLAIMER: In case you fail the written, you can only reapply after 90 days and have to take written exam again.
The trial will be on the next working day after the written exam.
Trial
DO NOT FORGET THE ADMIT CARD AND YOUR ORIGINAL CITIZENSHIP
ALSO, MUST WEAR SHOES. Don't go there wearing them flip-flops.
On the inclines, stop above the STOP word(don't go beyond the STOP WORD)
Passed your Trial
Congratulations. You'll now have to go to the the Transport office on the day after tomorrow (पर्सि) you passed with Rs. 1500 and the signed admit card. You'll get two receipts. Better you laminate one(the green one) and keep the other (red one) at home safely. You'll have to submit the red one to get your smart license.
Failed the trial
You still have two more attempts. You go to the Transport office on the third day of your failed day and pay Rs. 500. Your retrial will be on the next working day.
DO NOT GET IN LINE OF THE BIOMETRIC You go straight to pay.
Failed the third attempt
You repeat everything from the beginning. You won't have to provide the biometrics again but have to do the eye check.
My personal suggestions:
If you have leisure time, go the office on office visit day as late as possible (not late after 3.30pm). You won't have to stand in long queues.
For trial too, don't need to go early as you'd have to stay in long queues and it would only make you nervous. Reach there before 2 to 2.30pm.
Practice for half an hour before the trial in good condition bike.
Get license as early as possible; even as soon as you get your citizenship. Later in life you'd be pretty busy with life.
Get category A license. K will only let you ride scooters.
My attempts
First attempt: Touched the line in 8 more than once and failed.
Second Attempt: 1. No marks cut in 8. 2. Did not turn on the sidelight. (-10) 3. Double tapped in उकालो (means I rest my foot again after taking it off) 4. In Oralo I stopped beyond the STOP word but behind the line. 5. Declared failed.
Third Attempt
Passed without any mistakes. The bike's handle was really unstable. Had to constantly shake it in 8.
Last thing: You actually don't have to pay again at the trial centre(they charge Rs. 250). I did my two attempts without paying them. In the third one, a person of the trial center noticed I didn't pay and made me pay.
I practised in Budhathoki Driving CENTRE Radhe Radhe with bike number 4441
If you have any other questions, my DM is open.
