Illustrator Box Vol 1

After many of stops and visits in the last week or so I finally found one of these Illustrator Box Vol 1 for my 11 year old son. He collects, I mostly just enjoy the hunt for the cards and the gratification of finding some of the harder to come by stuff for him. Now that I have one… should I advise him to rip the packs inside or keep the box set whole? Ultimately I will let him do whichever he wants, but I usually try to steer him toward just stashing away on certain items if I know it will benefit him in the long run.
