You Have Spoken: The community's Top Ten
OK folks, I have gone through your Top Ten lists (including many in comment sections) and tallied up your picks. At least 157 lists were involved (pretty sure I forgot to mark down a couple lists who's picks got included). I counted each inclusion as a "vote" for that ship. Without further ado, here's your choice of Top Ten Star Wars ships:
Venator**-class Star Destroyer:** With 63 votes, the Venator more than doubled all other ships except the number two choice.
T-65B X-wing starfighter: Receiving 36 votes, this classic was hurt by it's close cousin, the T-70 X-wing. The T-70 stole 22 votes, but even a united X-wing vote would not have overtaken the Venator.
LAAT/i gunship**:** A couple other LAAT variants got votes, but with 30, the LAAT/i easily outstripped them.
TIE/IN interceptor**:** Tied for 3rd with 30 votes, the TIE interceptor faced stiff competition from the TIE Reaper, TIE Avenger, and especially the TIE Defender which received more than 20 votes.
ARC-170 starfighter**:** It's a beautiful classic at this point, and 29 of you agreed on that. What more needs said?
Raider**-class corvette****:** The Corvus specifically received a LOT of votes and boosted the Raider into this spot with 27 votes total.
UT60-D U-wing troop transport**:** This one surprised me. I was not expecting it to get 27 votes, but here it is. It was fun to see such a mix of old and new ships make the Top Ten.
Imperial II-class Star Destroyer**:** Que Vader theme music. The Imperial I got a few votes as well, but the ISD II got the lion's share with 26.
N-1 starfighter**:** I did not make a Top Ten list myself so as to not taint or weigh my results, but I was glad to see the N-1 make it through, tying for 8th with 26 votes.
Arquitens**-class light cruiser****:** Rounding it out with 25 votes, the Arqitens could have been a bit higher, but a few people specifically named variants, such as the command variant or the 546 cruiser.
Some housekeeping notes for those interested:
- Votes were not weighted. Many people did not list their picks in any particular order, so all picks are 1 for 1.
- Not all lists were "Top Ten". Many people made lists of 15 or 20, and a few were shorter. I included them all anyway.
- I was as exhaustive as I could be, but I couldn't track down half-a-dozen or so obscure ships with no information on the picture.
- Most picks of specific named ships were counted as a vote for the base model (i.e. if you put the Ghost as one of your picks then I marked one down for the VCX-100 light freighter). I made a couple exceptions for ships that were very heavily modified to the point of barely being recognizable as the base model such as Din Djarin's N-1. A couple of ships (like the Rogue Shadow) don't have a name for that ship model yet and are listed under the name of that ship.
- I did not include duplicate choices. Some people made one ship their entire list. I gave that ship one vote. The exception to this was a couple of lists that included the base model and a named famous ship of that type. So, for example, if you listed the Imperial I-class Star Destroyer AND the Devastator then I gave that model an extra vote.
- I used the names listed for the ships as listed in Wookieepedia. This means you may not see your ship listed where you might expect if you're used to using a shortened version of the name. For example, the A-wing can be found under "RZ-1 A-wing interceptor", not... well... A-wing. I ran out of room in my columns on a few of them and shortened the names slightly, but you shouldn't have trouble finding the ships anyway.
- I did include a few high-quality fan ships that people picked. I think EC Henry's Imperial Nebulon-B got the most votes of any of them with 5.
