Conventional Finish Over Primus and Mesh

Hi all,

7 year stucco veteran out of Canada here. I have a ton of experience with both conventional and acrylic stucco systems.

I’ve recently been hired for a renovation job. The existing stucco has 2” styrofoam with Davis wire screwed in over too with a conventional finish. It’s bulky and I’m my opinion, an abomination.

My question for you all is this:

Considering I have to match the depth of the existing stucco, could I use the 2” styrofoam, apply primus (primer adhesive) and mesh, scratch it, then apply a conventional finish coat over top?

I don’t foresee any problems with this, but would love some opinions.

Cheers
