What kind of Swedish is spoken in this general area? Any interesting info about this area in particular?
My most-recent Swedish ancestors lived in this general area of Värmland before immigrating to Massachusetts in 1890, and I would love to learn more about the language and culture of the area and potentially learn more about my family, in turn. I understand it's been more than 130 years since my ancestors last lived there, and the Swedish in the area has certainly evolved, but I'd still love to hear and learn more about the Swedish of my long-lost cousins! Is it more similar to the Norwegian spoken in Oslo or more like the Swedish spoken in Göteborg? How much has the language changed since the late 1800s? Is Swedish even the main dialect spoken here?
My ancestors also appear to have been active in the Lutheran church, as many of their records come from there. I also read somewhere that there was a large migration of Finns to the area at some point in fime before my ancestors left, so it wouldn't surprise me if there's some Finn in me as well. However, I haven't found any evidence or records of Finnish ancestry, just lots of Swedish (and some Norwegian and D*nish) ancestors with very Scandinavian-sounding names going back hundreds of years.
