Senior Prank

I do not understand the tradition. Our seniors just finished throwing toilet paper (the school's toilet paper) all over the building, along with flipping tables, throwing carts down stairs, and other things I couldn't see because I was stuck in a room trying to not make things awkward after saving some senior grades through last minute assignment grading.

It doesn't hurt me. It doesn't hurt administration. It hurts the people who have to clean it up, which is largely our custodial staff. The students are getting their revenge on the school (Fuck this school, being chanted ad nauseum) by punishing the people who fundamentally make the place at least decent to be at.

The few who tried to say hi to me as I was leaving the parking lot I ignored, because the only thing I could think to say was, "A mess someone else has to clean up is really a perfect encapsulation of the class of 2022."

Just boggles my mind. I never got the point of it when I was a senior and still don't now as a teacher.

Edit with update: Talked with the senior committee chair and there was a plan that the prank would have been cleaned up by the students. Unfortunately, there was a group of boys running around doing more extreme things to the building.

Currently being investigated, but I did tell him I felt better about the toilet paper part because they were going to clean it up themselves.
