Pros and Cons of different diversity mates?

So, I normally only go for three and four star but on my Lost River file, I fell in love with a one star mate. He is helpful while hunting, plays with the kids, and helps with fights. Awesome. Only downside is he gets hurt more easily than I'm used to.

... But unlike with other packs, our pups keep getting sick almost right out of the den, with both litters so far having two get sick almost as soon as they're old enough to leave the den.

Not sure if it's intended or not, but it made me curious if anyone else noticed differences through different playthroughs between the different star levels?
