Renting in Arlington- HELP

Hi everyone,

As the title suggests, I am looking to move to the Arlington area before starting work in downtown DC next month and am looking for some advice/guidance. For context, I am a recent graduate moving from out of the area. I believe that Arlington/NoVA is more in line with my lifestyle preferences than DC itself. While I have done extensive research on the entire process, I am looking for some "insider" tips/info on finding an affordable apartment that meets my needs in a safe and reliable area.

Metro access is probably my top priority- I don't mind a short walk, but would like the entire one-way commute to remain close to/under a half hour. I also plan on renting a 1 bedroom apartment by myself, without roommates, so co-ops/studios are not a preferred option. I'm pretty flexible with specific amenities, but in-unit washer/dryer would be nice (not required)- however reliable building management/condition is important. Entertainment/bars/restaurants are not the biggest concern- I am willing to travel for those. I much rather prefer quieter areas anyway. Lastly, my budget is around $1800/month. Is that realistic? I consider myself to be a responsible spender if that amounts to anything and can budget well.

Are there any websites or specific condominium/apartment complexes you would recommend? Any "method to the madness" which may prove more efficient in terms of finding an appropriate apartment? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
