Do they drug test medical personell in Switzerland?
[Please read edits]
Good morning! I hope you're all well.
I'm being trained as an EMT and eventually paramedic. I also very much want to leave the U.S. for a whole glut of reasons I'm sure wouldn't be lost on anyone here.
I have some family in Switzerland, so it's on my immigration radar, so to speak. I happen to partake of cannabis from time to time, which I unfortunately had to completely give up for my career here.
So I came to ask Swiss citizens and especially Swiss paramedics if any see this - is drug testing common in Switzerland? Is it even prohibited to use cannabis on your own time as a paramedic there? Do paramedics specifically tend to get tested?
This isn't an absolute make or break for my immigration, but it really would be a nice plus. I don't drink, I happen to very much dislike alcohol. Cannabis is really the only substance I have ever used regularly, and it did wonders for my quality of life.
Thank you so much in advance.
Edit: I don't expect to move soon, I don't have citizenship. I'm just compiling a list of eligible countries that fit with my life plans. I should have mentioned that, sorry. If I could get tips on how to immigrate there, I would certainly appreciate it.
Edit 2: I'm getting some somewhat indignant replies. Please understand I have no illusions that it's easy to immigrate to Switzerland or several countries on my radar. I'm early on in research, and many questions I had about this option have already been answered on this sub and elsewhere. It's just that this one was not for Switzerland specifically.
I'm not just gonna see a "you can light up 24/7" and start packing my bags with a Swiss flag stickered to the front tomorrow morning. I fully understand that if Switzerland ends up being my goal, I will not be able to live there for several years and won't be able to obtain citizenship for several years longer if it happens at all.
I do understand the trepidation towards Americans, I know we have a crap reputation. I appreciate the responses with genuinely helpful info, kindly presented or otherwise.
