Which characters do you relate too and why? Here’s mine, plus an info dump on each :)

I want to hear who you relate to too and why, feel free to info dump :)

Here’s an explanation of my favourites.

Disclaimer: I’m not diagnosing any of these characters, as for the majority it’s probably not the case and they have other reasons that lead them to present like they do. This is just a silly thing I wanted to do as I related to their traits a lot. They mean a lot to me and helped me feel more comfortable with myself.

1) 🍬Vanellope - my favourite Disney princess 🍬

Her glitch makes her different and meant she struggled to make connections with people and led her to be isolated. That was painfully relatable to me when I watched the film as a kid . Also the fact that when she got emotional her glitches acted up, it reminded me of when I had meltdowns The movie meant even more to me because at the end her glitches weren’t fixed, it just stopped being seen as bad, as that’s just a part of who she is. Also, as a girl who genuinely feels uncomfortable in dresses (I prefer to present as more neutral) the fact she didn’t want to wear it was an awesome moment.

2) 🤖Cyn - silly goober 🤖

As someone with a special interest in indie animation murder drones was peak. But for me my favourite character by far was Cyn. Her unusual voice, movements and behaviours that were seen as weird were relatable for me. I found myself repeating her voice lines as vocal stims after watching the show a lot lol. When I was on holiday I had to watch the finales premiere in the hall of a hotel(only place with reception lol) at midnight because of time zones. Cyn made it all worth it though. I have no regrets. Goober/10 character.

3) 🎭Gangle - why do you they have to be so painfully relatable? 🥲🎭

I love TADC so much but episode 4 was painfully relatable. Gangle wearing a happy mask, realising it was fake and unhealthy before throwing it away reminded me of my unmasking journey. (Again I’m not saying it was written to be that but for me that’s how I took it). Yeah…I cried at that episode but that’s just a testimony to how well her character was handled.

4) 👻Mimikyu - favourite Pokemon👻

Mimikyu is also a really good allegory of masking, it feels more on the nose too. Mimikyu feels like they have to disguise themselves as Pikachu just to be accepted but ends up looking scary in the process anyway :( Again as someone who’s heavily masked for a while, I can relate to the fact that masking sometimes can come across as uncanny because of how forced it can look. (Also can I just say I really love the design, it’s so cool and creative, even the Funko is a unique shape for once)

5) 🌼Flowey - Favourite character EVER🌼

Undertale is my special interest (I can’t play it well but I love everything about it) so I had to put a character from Undertale on here. I know most people say Papyrus is autistic, which I agree with but I’ve always related to Flowey. I know Flowey acts the way he does because of his soullessness but he still resonates with me. He’s an amazing written and complex character. Flowey has a tendency to mask too to be seen as ok. Him acting nice in the beginning is manipulative. But even his sarcastic, dramatic persona isn’t real either. Being soulless made him feel like he was wrong, because he had the inability to connect to people and felt numb. This only being intensified by the resets making everyone become ‘lines of dialogue’. As someone who struggles with empathy I can relate. But because he couldn’t make connections, he made up an evil persona/ mask as he felt wrong, so acted wrong because it was easier than processing it. If that makes sense, he’s hard to explain. He’s sarcastic, and theatrical to hide how numb he is and how much he’s struggling. I also love how the end of the story is handled, where he finally gets his chance to process everything which is bittersweet. He deserved better.
