What are the Beatles community's thoughts on John Lennon's Sometime in New York City?
I first listened to it after Rolling Stones called it the most disappointing album of all time.
Personally, I think it's a great hit from John. Considering only disc 1, melodically it has great songs, I even like it more than the ones that came later. We got New York City, John Sinclair, Angela, and I still think Yoko's songs here are better than in Fantasy and Honey.
The N word use on the first song was not really necessary, he used it just to get attention. But it also kind of complements the absurdity of women's suffering in a sexist society. I don't get involved in this matter cause I'm not black, but as a song, it has one of the most powerful melodies and instrumentations of Lennon's career.
Now let's just ignore the atrocity of disc 2.
