Moving to other side of Brisbane from where you grew up

Partner and I are first time home buyers but I grew up in the redlands and would love to buy in the eastern suburbs (Hemmant, Tingalpa, Wynnum etc) but I have noticed there isn't many houses available in our budget and while we could buy there could take 6 months waiting for places to come up for sale.

So partner and I have been looking northside (Bracken Ridge, Taigum, Bald Hills, Boondall etc) along the two train lines as we have seen so many more places available and thus thinking more likely to find a home we both love. We also both have city jobs and likely always will so want to live within Max 5 minute drive to a train station.

For those of you who have moved to opposite sides of Brisbane (Redcliffe to Ipswich/darra for example) what was your experience?
