Who actually does full blown automation?

I've been hunting on and off for about five years and I've been a pentester as well for the last two. I was never too concerned with the money aspect of bug bounty and mostly did it to learn and find cool bugs. In the past, my approach was basically just choose a target, find subdomains if they are in scope, and look at them one by one. I usually fuzz them all for directories but literally never find anything from that and I have tried making custom wordlist.
However, I'd like to really get back into it and try to make some extra cash consistently. I am wondering if I should set up a VPS and start using the tools that monitor websites for changes and stuff like that. Can anyone tell me if they do anything like that and what your setup? Also, how much success do you get from it? Even if the automation is just discovering new websites to manually hack, if they are unknown to everyone else then that would be a huge benefit of automation by itself. Or, can you recommend some writeups of automation setups that you use/have used? Thanks yall.
