Advice on gun purchase
Hi there, I am looking for people's advice or suggestions on some purchase options. I'm primarily interested in a .22 and a .270 for small and medium-sized game (grouse, ptarmigan, caribou, moose if close enough.) Budget is not a huge issue though as an entry-level hunter, I'm hoping to keep things reasonable (the features of the top-end stuff would mostly be wasted on me.)
These are the current .270 options at the store in my community:
- Ruger 270Win combo with Vortex Crossfire scope - $1099.99
- Winchester 270Win combo with Vortex Crossfire - $1174.99
- Tikka T3X Lite 270Win (stainless) gun only - $1524.99
- entry-level scope: Vortex Crossfire 3-9x40 - $249.99
I am partial to a Tikka as one of my hunting buddies swears by it and I've enjoyed practicing with theirs. I also have another hunting friend who's offered to sell me a .300wsm for $450 (what they bought it on consignment for); it's not my ideal gun but seems like a pretty good price.
I'm less fussy about a .22 option, but would be curious to hear if folks have opinions on those as well. Thanks in advance.
