Tadpole revive in water

I just had my brother blow himself up a bunch of times so I could revive him and get the challenge, but it never gave us the option. He just died. We made sure it was in shallow water. Is anyone else having this problem?

Edit: resolution was for him to turn off all of his explosive perks. I let him blow himself up a little more times and then thanked him. Thanks y’all
