Question about the first part of Onyx Storm

I’ve only read Onyx Storm until 46% according to my Kindle. So please no spoilers after that (i think it’s chapter 27)

But there’s something I can’t wrap my head around.

Mind you I didn’t have time to re read IF and I’ve got ADHD so I’m quite forgetful.

I just don’t understand why they’re back at the academy? Like yes, i understand that they need allies and a lot of the authorities realized they had to help them stop the venims. And yes, i get they need help with teaching and with diplomatic.

I just don’t understand why they’d be there willingly following orders or things like the Codex.

Like the whole thing about Xaden being a Teacher and having to date Violet in secret…. Like why? I just don’t see the need for them to be part of the academy (or Violet being a student at all) and having to follow rules and having to support people following them around so they won’t sleep together?

This is the same academy who lied to them about venin not existing and twisted history to made fliers look bad.

The only “improvement” i saw from them is not letting students kill each other anymore, but the whole thing about “going back to class like nothing happened and following the codex” feels kind of ridiculous? And being afraid about what Dain’s dad would say/do?
