Baggage Policy and Pickup On Different International Carrier Booked Through American Airlines
I had originally booked a Qatar Airlines flight (KTM -> DOH -> ATL) through AA miles, but QA canceled the flight, and AA rescheduled me to KTM -> DEL -> JFK -> ATL. The leg from KTM -> DEL is through IndiGo, DEL -> JFK through American Airlines, and JFK -> ATL through JetBlue. The itinerary is through the same record locator, but individual flight confirmation codes also exist. I am really confused about the baggage policy and pickup, and I wonder if anyone has had this situation before here.
- Will the leg from KTM -> DEL still have the same standard baggage policy (2 pieces, 50 lbs each)? I have called AA multiple times, and some say IndiGo Airlines will honor the baggage policy since it's still an AA-issued ticket. Some say AA has no control over partner airlines' baggage policies and will defer to whoever-I-am-flying-with's policy.
- Should I have to check out, pass through the customs, pick up my baggage, and check in again at any point? Some say I would have to do it at DEL, some say I'd have to at the US's first port of entry (JFK in this case).
The last thing I'd want is to take more pieces of baggage than I am allowed at the airport and pay exorbitant additional fees. Far worse, I fear I might miss my bags at some point because I was supposed to pick up my bags and check in again, and I didn't. I'd much appreciate any leads and/or clarity on this. Thank you kindly!
