DISPATCH : 'Hanni’s Memory Evolves'... Min Hee-jin’s Build-Up to 'Ignore'"
The following are KakaoTalk conversations submitted by Min Hee-jin to the injunction court. They were used as evidence for the "Ignore Them" incident.
The "Ignore Them" incident is widely recognized as a representative example of HYBE’s alleged bullying. In reality, Hanni appealed during a livestream and the National Assembly audit that she was being ostracized by HYBE.
However, the origin of the phrase "Ignore Them" differed from what had been previously known. Ironically, the starting point of this word was Min Hee-jin’s own mouth. (The full story was revealed through Min Hee-jin’s KakaoTalk messages.)
[June 2, 2024]
Hanni: "I heard the ILLIT manager say something like, ‘Just pretend you don’t know and walk past.’ I don’t remember the exact words, but it was roughly along those lines."
Hanni: "One member seemed to say to the manager, ‘Okay, okay! I’ll just pretend not to notice,’ or something like that."
Min Hee-jin: "Did the manager tell them not to acknowledge your greeting?"
Hanni: "I’m not sure."
Min Hee-jin: "But what felt off to you?"
Hanni: "The manager saying that..."
Min Hee-jin: "‘Ignore Them’? Did all the ILLIT members ignore you?"
Hanni, in contrast, showed mature handling of the situation: "I really don’t care about them at all, so please don’t worry about it!!" (Hanni, June 2)
[September 11, 2024]
NewJeans (NJZ) held a livestream. On this day, Hanni lamented experiencing workplace bullying and claimed she heard "Ignore Them" from an ILLIT manager.
"I ran into another team’s members and manager in the HYBE 4th-floor hallway. The manager said ‘Ignore Them’ loud enough for me to hear." (Hanni, September 11)
So, what was Hanni’s initial report on June 2?
"I don’t remember the exact words, but it was something like [pretending not to notice], and I’m not sure if [the manager] told them not to greet me." (Hanni, June 2)
Hanni’s memory became clearer after three months. What was initially "a vague, unremembered remark" was confirmed as "Ignore Them" 100 days later. During the livestream, she repeated Min Hee-jin’s wording verbatim.
"The manager said ‘Ignore Them’ loud enough for me to hear." (Hanni, September 11)
NewJeans emphasized that the livestream was voluntary to block speculation about Min Hee-jin’s involvement: "We’re worried baseless claims like ‘The CEO orchestrated this’ might arise."
However, Min Hee-jin was aware. According to KakaoTalk messages obtained by Dispatch, Min Hee-jin coordinated the livestream timing with the members’ families, hinting at her involvement in the production.
Member’s Family: "Is the YouTube [livestream] happening now?"
Min Hee-jin: "We pushed it back slightly because Bunnies [fans] are celebrating something good. Thank God—You are setting the stage for the girls to shine."
Member’s Family: "Is it at 7 PM?"
[October 15, 2024]
Hanni appeared at the National Assembly audit. She attended as a witness for the Environment and Labor Committee, positioning herself as a living witness (?) to workplace bullying and going alone "for the members."
On October 15, Hanni tearfully appealed at the audit:
"I greeted the girl group members first, and [they] came out again 5–10 minutes later. The manager told the members, ‘Pretend you didn’t see her—ignore her.’" (Hanni, October 15)
"I don’t understand why I’m being subjected to this. I don’t get why that manager would make such remarks in a workplace environment." (Hanni, October 15)
Let’s revisit Hanni’s initial memory from June 2. She first gave a personnel evaluation (?) of the ILLIT members:
"(ILLIT Member 1) seemed startled when she saw me but bowed in greeting. She looked surprised and uncomfortable." (Hanni, June 2)
"(ILLIT Member 2) seemed to grow colder in her gestures after realizing it was me. She gave a short greeting and bowed stiffly." (Hanni, June 2)
"(ILLIT Member 3) lightly bowed her head and said ‘Hello’ very softly. But her body was extremely tense, and she looked uncomfortable." (Hanni, June 2)
Hanni, at the time, acted more maturely than the adults:
"I completely understand why they acted awkwardly. There’s so much competition in the media and company. So I totally get it." (Hanni, June 2)
Hanni’s memory traveled backward. It grew sharper over time. Who is shaking the memory cells? What’s clear is that Min Hee-jin was present at every turning point. Dispatch witnessed it.
"Ignore Them" was never Hanni’s original wording. It was a keyword picked lit by Min Hee-jin. It was built up in KakaoTalk, confirmed in the livestream, and became biased in the audit.
Synchronized logical fallacy: Applying stringent standards to evidence contradicting one’s beliefs while uncritically accepting flimsy evidence that aligns with desires.
"Synchronized reasoning" uses bias to focus only on evidence that fits what we already believe and ignore what shakes us. (David Robert Grimes, "Fake vs. Fact")
Added: The original Dispatch article actually contains the (?), not even sure why
