Deciding to buy a MBP soon but tariffs are worrying me

I’m a software engineer (run a lot of simulators for iOS development, heavy web app developer, etc)

work bought me a non locked down 2020 M1 MBP that i loved dearly that i got at release that pushed the limits for what i needed and worked great. I broke the screen on my 2020 MPB about 5 months ago and work sent me a 2024 macbook air M3 that is more performant besides the battery life.

My employer does not want the 2020 MBP back but the screen replacement is going to be between $400-500 which makes it not worth it to repair as a personal laptop as i could probably get one in the $800-$1000 range

I’m most likely going to quit my job in the next 4-8 months and need personal machine to develop side projects on, study, and conduct interviews.

I want to buy a new top of the line machine soon (MBP) but don’t know when i should purchase one. The trump admiration has me nervous with inflation that laptops/computer chips could make electronics and outrageously expensive soon.

i’m looking for advice when i should buy a new mbp m3/m4?

i don’t need it immediately (I probably wouldn’t use it within the next 3 months). I was thinking about waiting for the new cycle release but i’m worried about inflation in the next 4-8 months.

I know everything is speculation but I thought i’d feel for from the community for any advice and opinions? for my use case i rather an MBP than an air.
