What happened to Robert Covington?

A few years ago RoCo was one of the premier 3&D guys in the league, how ever he's been a free agent since the end of last season. From what I've seen he is still playing for team USA and trying to get on a roster. I know he's 34 but is he really that washed? He seems the type of player that could help a lot of teams on a minimum contract.
