Enough whinging about capitalism - let's organise socialism
I've had it with reading posts where we all pointlessly echo-chamber our disgust with the way things are, and what's happening, while doing nothing material to change the situation.
It's not enough to be angry, and not enough to simply complain. We need to take concrete action, not only to change this government, but to change the way we are governed. We need to change our society, and what we've become. We've been shaped by our conditions, and it's now critical that we take steps to change ourselves for the better, by working together to be a better, healthier, more sustainable society.
I lean towards libertarian socialism (anarchism). I'd love to see something like Murray Bookchin's Social Ecology or Communalism get some traction in Aotearoa. Essentially, community groups organising horizontally to provide support where our government is failing us, and slowly and constructively building a more positive, inclusive, sustainable alternative to the current state model that is falling down.
This is increasingly what we're looking at seriously needing, and I think it can only lead to improved social cohesion and positive outcomes for communities.
I'm in Wellington, and already working towards this in small ways, but I'm eager to put more into it. I want to support people to learn theory in this area, and also put it into practice.
What do you think? If people are keen to learn more, I'll put my back into it. I'm ready for some strong opinions on this post, and no doubt some brigading. Please keep it civil.
