Extremely early Oscar speculation I know, but how do you think The Odyssey & Dune Messiah will fare at the 99th Academy Awards?

At the start of 2024 I thought Dune Messiah would sweep the Oscars like how Return Of The King did in 2003. When it was confirmed for a December 2026 release date I was convinced it would do this.

However with Nolan’s recent announcement that he will tackle Homer’s Odyssey I’m not sure now. I feel Odyssey & Dune Messiah will be in direct competition for a lot of the below the line awards.

Also for actor nominations. I can see a campaign being built for Damon. He is beloved and has been around for a while now. I can see him getting a ‘it’s time’ award same way Pitt & Lee Curtis have won in recent years. People will scoff at me saying this but I’ve you read Messiah you will Paul’s transformation is big in that film. There is definitely a case for Chalamet getting nominated for that performance. Whether he wins is dependent on if he wins for A Complete Unknown or not. Plus the industry might feel like they want him to wait for an award like all the other legends before him did.

As for Best Picture & Best Director we’ll see. There is always those two or three dramas that come in and scoop The Best Picture award from big tent pole films. For Best Director I don’t think The Academy will give it to Nolan back to back. They might finally give it to Villeneuve.
