Mom ruined my Christmas by asking if I got 'bigger' in front of everyone

We all as a family had a great Xmas eve, honestly one of the best. We played music and sang together and Nmom was on good behavior.

She of course had to ruin it at the very end. I had just reentered the main room after a bathroom break and she pointed right at my belly and asked if I gained weight, in front of everyone. She said “petcatsandstayathome, has your belly gotten kinda big?”

In what universe is it okay for a mother to say this to her daughter?

I immediately said, in her face, quietly as if reprimanding a toddler, "why would you say that? that's so rude, mom. That's not a question you should ever ask anyone, okay?"

In reality think I have gained a few lb, nothing major, and more prominently is an issue where I bloat badly after meals and, I’ve felt very insecure about it latley.

Now I haven’t eaten a thing since then and haven’t gotten out of bed. All the good things that happened on xmas eve have been overshadowed by her comment.

Now she's texting me 'I don't want you to be mad at anymore, I love you!'

It's like a game to them... the injuring of the spirit... and the love bombing... it's emotional whiplash.

I told her to leave me alone for a while. And I told her she needs to "think about each word in her head before she says it". Like, in what universe does the daughter need to teach that lesson to her MOTHER?

I'm 39 years old and I still fall victim to her bullshit. It still hurts. So deepy.

Now all I want to do is lose 5 lb :-(
