To what extent is California isolated from the US government?
With the inauguration happening as well as California's large population influence, it's gotten me thinking: how 'isolated' is California from the US government? In other words, to what extent would federal policies realistically affect the state compared to other states?
I ask this, because if I could look at all the political news these days and think of it as "not my problem", as if I don't actually live in the US, then that would be quite helpful for my mental perspective.
I was going to post this in r/California, but they require a link in their posts, so I decided to post here instead.
