Last project completed - flowy summer dress
The original idea was to try to create something similar to Hello Molly “Passion for you” maxi dress. But since I didn’t find an exact pattern, I combined two separate patterns. For skirt “Freesia printable circle skirt” pattern from Etsy and for top I traced a pattern from one of my old dresses. After assembly I wasn’t too sure about the metal ring look of the inspiration dress and pivoted to keep the front of the dress as a tieable bow instead.
Fabric is from Mood - Mood Exclusive Thornfield Hall Cotton Voile Panel. It’s super soft and flowy, perfect for summer dresses. It’s also quite sheer on the light part of the fabric, so I lined the top and part of the skirt (this lining also ended up giving extra volume to the skirt). The large panel pattern took some efforts to line up and used up more material than I would have expected.
Key challenge of this project: for the first time I tried the hidden zipper foot and accidentally sew the zipper too close to the fabric and now need to be take extra care when opening it. Also I realised that when cutting the fabric for the top I left overly generous seam allowances, which later necessitated quite a few adjustments until the fit was acceptable.
