Steelbach is the grossest restaurant in Tampa
I recently took a job in the kitchen at Steelbach (Three Oaks Hospitality) and I’m surprised they aren’t shut down permanently. Aside from the insanely toxic work culture, this place was a dump (and I’ve worked at Applebees). Cockroaches commonly run around the kitchen and prep tables and are so bad that they actually do a bug bomb once a month where they have to cover most of the restaurant in plastic because the spray is so toxic. If you slam a refrigerator door too hard the roaches come out in droves and scurry all over the kitchen and even into the wood that they use to keep the grill going. The walk-in has so many code violations you’d need an entire day to enter them all. Bone marrow marinating on the wet floor with no cover. Desserts, butter and peeled potato’s getting touched by the bare handed staff as they throw stuff around. Poultry and bacon left out with no cover so it can be grabbed easier. Ever had a bad oyster there? Not surprised. Those are left out at room temp so they’re easier to open…because they’re spoiled. I witness staff using the same gloves to handle food then wipe the sweat from their forehead. Overall this place was so bad I left after 2 days.
I’ve always strived for a healthy atmosphere to practice my passion in culinary…this place was an health department field day. And for being shut down this spring for infestation, you think they’d at least try…
