What was the most embarrassing thing to happen to you while traveling?
I visit South Korea a lot due to my husband being there as we’re waiting for a visa. I absolutely love the country and I always love going to Korea. I’m going in a few weeks and back again in August.
So, when I went to South Korea in December I went shortly after everything that happened with the president calling martial law. When I went to Korea there wasn’t a feeling of high tensions. When my husband was at work I was out shopping, having lunch, and exploring a palace. I really wanted to make the most of my time in a country I love so much. When I was walking around I noticed a bunch of middle aged people singing and waving the U.S. flag. Since I’m from the U.S. I was pretty excited to see this and I wanted to see what was going on. I started talking to the people and they really liked me. I took photos with some of them, told them that my grandpa was in the Korean War which they were delighted to hear, and they offered me hot tea or coffee. Out of no where a guy around my age (I’m 28) came up to me, grabbed my hand trying to get me away from the area, and said “you shouldn’t be here” and I just looked at him confused. He told me “this isn’t for us it’s for older people, please leave”. Then one of the middle aged men came up to us and grabbed me from behind pulling me back to the area. I panicked and told them all I have to leave and made my way out.
I called my husband and told him what happened and he said the place I went to wasn’t a movement to support the U.S. it was most likely a protest in favor of the ex President Yoon Suk-Yeol. It was sooo embarrassing and I don’t know why I was dumb enough to join.
