Why is there a negative look on pagans wondering why is it fear or ignorance

Reason I ask is because Christian and Vikings got along near the end of the Viking Age I had a long time friend tell me I was going to burn for praying to my deity and doing rituals for him then sent me a video of a preacher spewing about how their is no love nothing good coming from paganism and I felt betray by my friend he trashed my outdoor alter on my property and destroyed a decade of work and things I consider as signs from my deity I confronted him and asked why he told me your fake god won't answer your prayers and Cernnunos has answered multiple of them already what do I do with this friendship
