Youtube is super slow and laggy on safari

Does anyone else have this issue of YouTube being incredibly slow on safari? I've been using YouTube on safari on Mac for a while now and all of a sudden yesterday it has been super slow and choppy. I tried using YouTube on Firefox and it works smoothly. Any one else experiencing this and any ways to fix it? I tried clearing cache but that didnt work.
