Andre Young (Dr. Dre’s Son) Found Dead

    August 26th, 2008

    Via LiveNews

The son of legendary rap producer Dr Dre has been found dead at his home in Woodland Hills on Saturday morning.

Andre Young Jr., 20, was unresponsive when his mother went to check on him around 10 A.M., calling 911 to alert paramedics.

Young’s cause of death is pending completion of a toxicology report.

Damn, all I have to say is that we shouldn’t live longer than our sons. RIP Andre and condolences to Dr. Dre, his mother, his family and his friends.

T.I. Speaks On His Leaked Track ‘Swagger Like Us’

    August 25th, 2008

    Via MTV:

“That’s some bullsh–,” a disappointed Tip told MTV News Saturday afternoon (August 23) via phone. “I’m beating down the Internet as we speak.”

The MC — who will perform a song from Paper Trail at the MTV Video Music Awards on September 7 — obviously isn’t upset with how well “Swagger Like Us” (or “S.L.U.”) turned out or even the immediate positive reaction it’s gotten. He just had planned on presenting his song properly rather than having it just thrown out there. He said it could have been “that much bigger” if he’d had the chance to roll it out in grand fashion.

“Don’t ruin the event,” he lamented. “Wait till the cake comes out the kitchen before you eat it. That’s like a kid who sees his toys before Christmas; it takes away from me and I think it takes away from the fans as well. When it’s time, I’mma give it to you. They leaked my record with me and The-Dream ["Like I Do"] too. Leakage is never a problem I have had. I’m not used to it.”

The internet is a beast these days. I’m sure its hard to protect your tracks when so many people are involved in the process.

    Forbes’ Hip-Hop’s 2008 Cash Kings

    August 18th, 2008

    Via Forbes:

While Jay-Z topped Forbes.com’s inaugural Hip-Hop Cash Kings list of the top-earning people in the business last year, in 2008 he cedes the throne to Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, who raked in $150 million over the past 12 months–almost twice what Jay-Z made.

Looks like Curtis has been a busy man making all that paper. Check the rest of Forbes’ 2008 Hip-Hop Cash Kings list after the jump.

DJ Vlad Files $4 Million Lawsuit Against Rick Ross For Alleged Ozone Awards Beatdown

    August 15th, 2008

    Via MTV:

DJ Vlad filed a $4 million dollar lawsuit against Rick Ross in Federal Court in New York on Friday (August 15), claiming that the Miami MC orchestrated a “brutal attack” on Vlad (born Vlad Lyubovny) at the Ozone Awards in Houston last Sunday.

“Following a brief conversation between DJ Vlad and Ross in which Ross said, ‘We got beef,’ Ross’ accomplices, who had surrounded DJ Vlad while he spoke with Ross, proceeded to strike and beat DJ Vlad in Ross’ presence and without any protest on Ross’ part,” the suit says. The men then reportedly fled the scene and left Vlad laying on the ground “bleeding profusely” after one attacker shouted, “Yeah, mother—-er, that’s what you get.”

I suppose this sort of thing will happen from time to time. It should be interesting to see how Ross’ team of lawyers try to get him out of this one. Don’t mess with officer Ross.

    The Game Clarifies Jay-Z Statement

    August 15th, 2008

    Via AHH:

“I heard that Jay sorta said something about me at the Wimbledon tennis match,” The Game told AllHipHop.com exclusively. “I didn’t see him say it, I didn’t hear no audio so I don’t really know if he was dissing me, if he said something about me. Jay-Z’s a legend, man. I respect his music, [but that] doesn’t really mean I have to respect him if he’s disrespecting me. The Jay that was talking about me at Wimbeldon under his breath, or says anything about me, is the Jay that I’ll go at, and that’s just it.

Doesn’t look like there will be any on-going beef here. Check out the rest of the story at AHH.

    Blueprint 3 News

    August 9th, 2008

PPFF has posted some interesting news regarding Jay-Z and his upcoming project, The Blueprint 3. Check out what they had to say:

+ Kanye will indeed be producing most, if not all, of the album. Remember back in the day when an artist would do a whole album with one producer for cohesiveness? Think classic Snoop or Jeru with Primo… and fast forward it to 2008.

+ Jay will be leaking the finished version of “Jockin” as soon as he adds a new 3rd verse to the song.

+ Tracks to look for include the aforementioned “Jockin’ Jay-Z” and a new track entitled “Victory” that the rumor mill says is simply amazing.

A full Jay album produced by Kanye, sounds pretty fire to me.
