is there a moral obligation to introduce child to in-laws?
We live several hours away from in-laws. Throughout our marriage, my in-laws have, inexplicably, shown next to zero interest in our kids (but not to their other grandkids). They only buy them gifts if asked, never call, never ask about them, and have only visited twice in the five years of our kids existence. There was an incident of my MIL being abusive to my handicapped daughter. The only thing that could be an issue is I am the reason their son converted to Catholicism, but they never said anything re that and I sure have never attempted to convert them.
We just had another child and my husband wants us all to drive 467890 miles to introduce him to his parents. Is there a moral imperative for me to agree to this when they show utter indifference and there has been prior incident of abusive treatment? I am not seeking to be enemies or division, but this is a tall order to travel with several kids, one of whom is disabled, to see grandparents who show as much excitement for any of these kids as for an infomercial. UPD: there are no longer plans for us to travel. They haven't even asked for a video call or pics of our youngest, newborn, child and neither do they respond to any info re him. So situation resolved itself
