CXG Diegetic Songs vs Non Diegetic ones
I love how Crazy Ex Girlfriend manages to tie how Rebecca sees things into the Songs and music of the series. I think one of the easier ways of processing that that the songs in CXG were how Rebecca saw situations unfold came from 'Face your Fears'. I think in reality Paula was just trying to give Rebecca a Pep talk but Rebecca saw the pep talk as an overblown and preachy moralistic song about facing your fears. That might be obvious to a lot of others but itwasn't to me.
On the other hand I've been thinkign that there might be more songs that are actually more diegetic than others. I like thinking that 'I Gave You a UTI' really was Greg improvising a song in real life and we know that 'You're my Best Friend and I know I'm not Yours' was actually sung by Darryl to Paula. The other song I think exists in some capacity is Darryl's 'How to Clean Up' mini song from Season 4. I like picturing him singing that to a younger Madison to get her to clean up her personal items.
I feel like there could be more songs that fall closer to the diegetic end of the spectrum compared to nondiegetic spectrum but I really wanted to make this post just to have a discussion as to what songs actually are when they're not seen through the singer's perspective.
